IATSE 709 GREEN COMMITTEE

The Green Committee of IATSE Local 709 is dedicated to fostering community connections and peer-to-peer support that empowers sustainable practices across all departments in our industry. We aim to create a respectful, inclusive space where Members can openly identify challenges on set and work together toward meaningful solutions.

In addition, we advocate for systemic change by calling on employers and productions to take responsibility through clear, enforceable sustainability policies. We believe that environmental responsibility must be embedded, not just in individual actions, but in the structures and expectations of the workplace itself.

Our values prioritize preventing unnecessary waste, choosing reusables over single-use, embracing second-hand materials when possible, using renewable energy and encouraging responsibility for reducing the film industry’s environmental footprint.

This is a call to action for individuals and employers to become catalysts for transformative change. The magnitude of the climate change dilemma means we have generations of work ahead to avoid a default trajectory and arrive at a better future. Recognizing this, lasting change will depend on a collective effort built on problem-solving, grounded in open dialogue and mutual respect.

Together, we are working toward a more sustainable future for our union, our industry, and our planet, one set at a time.

STEP 1 - Register with Ontario Green Screen to complete the self-directed Sustainable Film Production Fundamentals course.

STEP 2 - Complete the course and receive your certificate via email from Ontario Green Screen. 

The self-directed online course will take approximately one hour to complete.

STEP 3 -  Once you have received your certificate via email forward it to operations@iatse709.com and you will be contacted about receiving your set of reusable IATSE 709 cutlery!
